Tommy Tucker had at least one other store located near Light & Cross Streets in South Baltimore. My mother did her Saturday grocery shopping at Food Fair. You could do other shopping first and then go to Food Fair where they would put your parcels in a cubbie for safe keeping while you food shopped. I went online to search the name and found this post. My grandparents lived on Woodington Road and I remember going to Edmondson Village during visits to them when I was a child. I don't have any specific memories of Tommy Tucker's but I sure remember the monkeys! They were a highlight of my childhood visits to my grandparents.pzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07603225674383495250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-37431935964832815572017-07-02T08:54:30.661-04:002017-07-02T08:54:30.661-04:00Sounds like a beautiful place at such an innocent ...Sounds like a beautiful place at such an innocent time in our history. Wish we had a time machine! I am helping a friend write a research paper about Catonsville in the late 60's. Does anyone recall what time the stores closed on a weekend back then? Pertains to our topic...which I wont bore you with. I do remember those birds, and the smell of the parakeets. I grew up a few blocks away in Hunting Ridge and attended Thomas Jefferson Elementary. We'd buy 45's at Tommy Tucker, and beads...but I had forgotten about those birds until you mentioned them. Thank you.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13458750760223882393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-30965570809524428232012-06-21T22:48:55.115-04:002012-06-21T22:48:55.115-04:00I remember that fire. I'm thinking it reopened in 1964 because I was riding a school bus out to Rock Glen Junior High from Woodington Rd. at the time, and the bus passed through Edmondson Village. I remember seeing the store being refurbished with new front windows and doors in preparation for reopening. When the fire occured, I couldn't help thinking of all the poor pet birds they had for sale dying from smoke suffocation.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17741696030348059270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-54260518499610008602012-06-21T20:28:09.987-04:002012-06-21T20:28:09.987-04:00I lived on Edgewood Street when Edmondson Village ...I lived on Edgewood Street when Edmondson Village opened and we went there quite often before moving to Catonsville. I remember how I almost cried when Tommy Tucker 5 and dime had a big fire that gutted the store. I had gotten so many treasures there...yo-yos, plastic army guys, kites and model airplanes.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10206873141909267792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-56760934090529149382012-03-03T13:29:13.658-05:002012-03-03T13:29:13.658-05:00Sorry, make that to watch THE ceremonial Christmas...Sorry, make that to watch THE ceremonial Christmas lighting.Lauriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03963993585417531202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-24601752574429882522012-03-03T13:26:06.549-05:002012-03-03T13:26:06.549-05:00This is one of my favorite childhood memories. One year the local celebrity to turn on the lights was Jack Wells, WJZ weatherman. I would give anything to see that again, I wish I could show my now grown children.Lauriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03963993585417531202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-39559320990926735162010-08-14T03:48:02.977-04:002010-08-14T03:48:02.977-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08369027761964389952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2831930771815302073.post-20010675932944771802010-03-22T09:06:34.944-04:002010-03-22T09:06:34.944-04:00Being a nostalgia buff from the 50's this hits...Being a nostalgia buff from the 50's this hits me right in my sweet spot. I have only vague memories of it, because we moved from Howard County to Owings Mills when I was about 7 I think. My strongest memory of Edmundson Village, and one of the (few) prominent memories from my childhood, was of going to the special Christmas section Hoschild's had for kids to take their meager spending money and buy something special for their parents, without a parent standing near pretending not to notice the purchase. I don't remember what I would buy for my mother, but I do remember my poor father getting the ubiquitous "Old Spice" aftershave on more than one Christmas. That and perhaps more than one interesting looking tie......(Mrs. Lanocula again, not the good dr.
